Sometimes, when you want something you have to go out and make it yourself! This is my crochet version of Sandro Botticelli's masterpiece, The Birth of Venus.
Venus is a symbol of love and beauty. In the original painting, the goddess arrives on the island of Cyprus, born of sea spray and blown to shore by the winds, Zephyr and Aura. She stands on a giant scallop shell where she is met by the Hora of Spring, who holds out a cloak covered in flowers. It’s just so beautiful! I’ve chosen to focus on her face for this project, starting with a graphic illustration which I then turned into a tapestry pattern.
For this project you’ll need a bit of crochet experience, but if you can handle single crochet stitches and colour changes, you’ll be fine. I’ve made sure there are at least two stitches for each colour change because a one stitch colour change is just silly!
4mm hook size
US crochet terms
Approximately 30cm x 37cm finished size.
To make everything as clear as possible, I’ve included three types of instructions: a Stitch Fiddle graph, written instructions, and colour block instructions. You will also find yarn recommendations, quantities, and specific shade codes.
This product is delivered as an instant A4 PDF download which means you can print it off at home instantly or take it to be professionally printed. You’ll receive a secure link to the file lasting 24 hours after the first download.
